Extracting Hydrologic Information from Spatial Data for Hms Modeling

چکیده

A methodology is presented for extracting topographic, topologic, and hydrologic information, from the digital spatial data of a hydrologic system, for hydrologic modeling with HMS. Methods for stream and watershed delineation from digital elevation models are presented. After vectorizing the raster-based stream segments and watersheds, navigation fields are added to their tables to support topologic analysis based entirely on the information stored in the tables of the spatial datasets. Algorithms for calculation of stream segment and watershed hydrologic parameters are also discussed. These parameters are curve number, area, and lag-time for the watersheds, and routing model and travel time for the stream segments. Once the hydrologic parameters and topology are defined, a basin model that summarizes all the information and which can be used as input for HMS is created. Using this methodology, the determination of the spatial parameters for HMS is an automatic process that accelerates the setting up of a hydrologic model and leads to reproducible results.

Use of HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS models with ArcView for hydrologic risk management

The paper discusses how the well known USACE HEC models, RAS and HMS, are fully integrated within the decision support system of the Romagna River Basins in order to predict flood effects. The models are fully available from the web and cope with such a variety of problems as rainfall-runoff modeling, river and civil works hydraulics, and the mapping of hydraulic hazard. The paper illustrates t...

Effect of digital elevation model’s resolution in producing flood hazard maps

Flooding is one of the most devastating natural disasters occurring annually in the Philippines. A call for a solution for this malady is very challenging as well as crucial to be addressed. Mapping flood hazard is an effective tool in determining the extent and depth of floods associated with hazard level in specified areas that need to be prioritized during flood occurrences. Precedent to the...

Automatic Calibration of HEC-HMS Model Using Multi-Objective Fuzzy Optimal Models

Estimation of parameters of a hydrologic model is undertaken using a procedure called “calibration” in order to obtain predictions as close as possible to observed values. This study aimed to use the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for automatic calibration of the HEC-HMS hydrologic model, which includes a library of different event-based models for simulating the rainfall-runoff pr...

The last two decades have seen increasing applications of digital terrain modeling in hydrological, geomorphological, pedagogical, and biological research, aided by rapid advancement of geographic information system (GIS). Hydrologic models are sensitive to change in the input values to the model, so the change of pixel size input data affects the output values of the model and produces differe...
